LBQ Activists Unite at the 9th ILGA ASIA Conference, 2022

The 9th ILGA ASIA Conference 2022 started with something special – the first-ever Lesbian Pre-Conference hosted by the Asia Feminist LBQ Network. This event brought together LBQ activists from all over Asia to talk about the challenges they face and share ideas on making things better.

The activists discussed the tough stuff – like laws that make things hard for LBQ people and the unfair treatment we sometimes get. It was a chance for us to share our stories and support each other. We also looked at ways to make things better for LBQ rights in each of our own countries and across the region.

In this rare in-person meeting, LBQ activists realized how powerful we could be if we worked together. We decided to team up and support each other’s efforts at the national and local levels. The goal is to make the LBQ movement stronger and better at fighting for equal rights.

To keep things balanced, the activists took a break from talking and did some meditation and art activities. This break helped them relax and recharge. It was a reminder that taking care of ourselves is just as important as working for change. The event ended with making paper cup lanterns together. It was a fun way to show unity and strength. The lanterns became a symbol of the power that comes from working together.

The first Lesbian Pre-Conference at the 9th ILGA ASIA Conference was a big deal for LBQ activists. It showed how strong we are when we face challenges together. As we raised the lanterns, the message was clear: it’s time to act, support each other, and make space for LBQ individuals in Asia. This special event is just the beginning of more teamwork, louder voices, and a future where LBQ communities are treated equally.
